
Features of hydrodynamic spindles
- Hydrodynamic bearings replace ball bearings in such spindles.

- Another feature of the design of hydrodynamic spindles is their
rugged housing with a stiff shaft.
- The external shape of the spindle can easily be adapted to fit
existing machine designs and configurations.
- Most of the hydrodynamic spindles consist of several lobes
permanently machined into the bearing bore. The bearings result in good
centering action of the shaft, creating a defined shaft position and
extremely precise shaft rotation.
- While the hydrodynamic spindle is rotating, hydrodynamic bearings
have low-clearance assemblies relying on a film of oil (or air) that
develops clearance and hence high startup loads must be avoided for such
spindles.

- Long durability: They have a long durability compared to
other spindles. The excellent oil supply to the hydrodynamic bearings
provided by hydraulic oil packs ensure its long life.
- Low noise level: They offer a low noise level because the
rotating shaft of the spindle is carried by an oil film.
- Damping: The pressure inside the spindle system is uniformly
distributed on the oil film. Because of it they have superior damping
characteristics than any other spindles.
- Machining accuracy: These spindles have a phenomenon peripheral rotation accuracy of less than 1 µm (micrometer).
