Features of hydrostatic spindles
All hydrostatic spindles have certain features as follows:
- Hydrostatic spindles combine high-static stiffness, very-high
rotational accuracy, and extremely high-resistance to vibration and low
sensitivities to both high built-in motor temperature and imbalance
force.
- These spindles are wear free and have higher damping than ball
bearings.
- The axial and radial running of such spindles is also better.
- Hydrostatic spindles have specific oil cool features which make them
very effective and high functioning.
- The hydrostatic oil circulates around the spindle and clean the
spindle continuously. It helps the spindle to keep cool which rectify
the thermal based measuring errors.
- Hydrostatic spindles are made for all type of categories like belt
drive, motor spindle, or direct drive.
- These spindles suspend on the bearings wear free with great runout at
high stiffness without reducing over time.
- They are free of friction when they do not move.
Types of hydrostatic spindles
- Hydrostatic milling spindles
- Hydrostatic cam grinding spindles
- Hydrostatic external grinding spindles
- Hydrostatic spindles for test station
- Hydrostatic lathe spindles etc.
Uses of hydrostatic spindles
- Hydrostatic spindles are used for the machining of special motor
parts of the cars with high stiffness and runout.
- In modern lathes if there are higher requirements of the production
to runout, damping, long term precision or temperature constancy then
hydrostatic
- Lathe spindles are the most preferred option.
- In test stations, where precise measuring of forces and torque is
necessary, hydrostatic spindles are used.
- Like other spindles, hydrostatic spindles are used in various machining tasks like grinding, milling, drilling etc.
Advantages of hydrostatic spindles
- They provide highest machining accuracy.
- They are very stiff and damp caused by hydrostatic bearings.
- They work with high shaft speeds.
- They have a compact design.
- They have almost unlimited bearing life.
- They can take high forces etc.
Advantage of hydrostatic spindles over ball bearing spindles
- There is specific improvement of the dynamic stiffness features.
- They have constant finishing surface level.
- Increasing of the run-out precision due to the lack of mechanical
components between the spindle housing and the rotating shaft.
- There is almost no vibrations due to direct contact between
mechanical parts.
- Equipped with autonomous thermal stabilization.
- Compared with ball bearings, longer hydrostatic bearings life due to
the lack of wear.
- No stops due to the frequent bearing substitutions mounted on
conventional spindles.
- Hydrostatic spindles require high pressure oil equipment.
