What are spindle heads?
Spindle heads are specialized tool holders that are fixed on machine tool spindles. Most spindle heads are multi rather than single. Multi spindle heads help in performing simultaneous machining operations. Most spindle heads cannot be shared, except in the case of identical-hole patterns in a family of parts. Spindle heads are designed for use with most drilling machinery and can easily enhance drilling operations by simultaneously drilling, countersinking, reaming or tapping two or more holes in a single operation. They are considered to be the most versatile method to drill and/or tap close spaced holes.
Uses of spindle heads
- Multiple spindle heads provide high-speed drilling.
- The spindle heads help in making or tapping holes anywhere from a few
holes to several thousand holes at a time.
- In milling systems, the spindle head allows the user to mount any
size cutting tool, as long as the tool fits the tool holder.
- A multi spindle head creates parts quickly allowing more than one
cutting operation to be performed at a time.
- Can be used for creating different hole patterns.
- Deigned in such a way so as to be adaptable to CNC machines.
